Yesterday we celebrated July 14th with Ze “Bal de la Victime” Bastille Day Dolly Picnic! ‘Twas awesome. Myself, Mr. Kallisti and Butter, picked up The Robots (Nadja & Will) and met up with St. James, Idrisfynn & JennyNemesi near Pioneer Meadow in GG Park. Unbenownst to us the meadow had been taken over by large tents and giant african foam heads o_o. So once KellyHime and Mr. KellyHime showed up on their vespa, we nipped around the bend to the Rose Garden (two rose garden dolly picnics this summer!) and claimed the least swampy bit of rising ground. Maggie joined us shortly, I’m glad she got the communique that the little group had moved!
(Ondine as the costumer who forgot her contacts :p)
The weather was wacky, alternately sunny and bright then cold, blustery with billowing fog. You’ll notice in the pictures how they suddenly turn leaden grey or are over exposed. Ugh! Still, we had parasols, lots of parasols. Cake and booze unburdens the soul. Olives and brie feed the mind. And my new favorite cocktail: Trader Joe’s Blueberry Soda with B & B (cognac & benedictine)… YUM!
I’ve been sewing for two weeks preparing two outfits. The empire Merveilleuse dress Aurelie is wearing and the split bodice Patriot dress for Hermione. I think pattern making has finally clicked, I drafted two dresses and a corset in the past two weeks. Wooo! You can see inspiration from my collection of images of costuming circa the French Revolution.
(the custom cake from The Cake Gallery. reeeeeeeeeeally goooooooood! btw, re: marie antoinette… she never said that.)

Firstly, I am sunburned! Pastey pinky people like me are usually very well prepared for outings. However, I was fussing with packing and dressing til the last minute and completely forgot my sunscreen. At least it was overcast all day so I didn’t feel it :p
The Tea was awesome! I forgot to take pictures of the food (and half of my own dolls, d’oh!) but everyone really went all out with the lovely snackies. And boy was it appreciated! There were like 6 fruit salads and I ate each one. Yarm! Liz even brought hot Mock Turtle Soup! Woot! We brought the cute picnic ware, drinks and absinthe was served. Nouvelle Orleans for the curious ^_^ tell them Kallisti sent ya!

85 or so dolls at last count! I love our dolly people. They rock, veritably.
Since I neglected to get pictures of Ondine & Lulu & Aurelie at the tea I should prolly take more pix while they look so cute. Tomorrow is PUT THE HOUSE BACK TOGETHER DAY AFTER RIPPING IT APART AND DRESSING DOLLIES. Woot. Maybe that and a leetle bbq. Love life.
Ondine is the spoiliest girl this month! I’ve been having fun buying the groovy boy clothes I’ve never had the chance to buy, weeeeeeeeeeeeee! This is the Luts outfit I finally got squared away, the detailing is awesome: working pockets both front and back and fits Ksy/Ondine like a glove! The whole outfit does really. The boots are also Luts SD13 pink boy boots and are the best fitting I’ve found yet due mostly to the nice roomy toe. And that’s not all, we have the Luts pink cupcake outfit on its way this very moment. Ha!
Miette is quite the little street performer. I love this her outfit, she’s been wearing it aaaall month. Thanks Aimee! It is a nice simple black underdress w/ pintucks and then the little check dress goes over top, so it is very versatile and you could rearrange the outfit. I like outfits you can do that with.
And Hermione takes my breath away every day. I still can’t believe I get to keep this extraordinary creature.
OMG, do you see how retarded these dolls make me? :p They’ve taken the place that popstars used to when I was younger. Sigh. I’m such a big dumb girl.
On another note, I just spent the whole day breaking my blog. Ugh! I was setting up notifications this morning (sign up!) and apparently put in a nefarious variable into the config file and the back end of MT got real brokey. So I just reinstalled it twice and finally moved it to a clean new install (which is really nice anyway) and find out all I had to do was remove the stoopid line in the config file. So. We’ll see if the notifications still work! :/
Uh-oh. damn, damn, damn. I couldna he’p it! I know it was too expensive… but Ondine so needs it. Neeeeeeeeeeedz. And I have a small credit with Luts. I figure that this is something I’d totally make, but it would take me at least 3-4 days hard labor. justify… justify… justify. Seriously though, I’d have to make all my own patterns, which is very labor intensive for me because I’m not a pro. And I’ve totally dreeeeeeamed about this outfit for ages. And even tho this one is all pink, the similar ones I’ve seen on YJP have been way too twee and look like they came right off of gramma’s couch. And because it is for a girl, the pink is purrrfect. I die.
I totally love it, he looks like a cupcake.
so I’ll uh… be selling a couple things later. Been meaning to anyway. If anyone is innerested in the Volks velvet girls outfit let me know, eh.
It definately needs hat and proper shoes. This is it, egads I’ll have to make decent shoes for her. I’m gonna do it, dangit. I just ordered this book:
The Art of Making Beautiful Fashion Doll Shoes
EDIT: Also, I must say when I do eventually get a boy, he’s going to be such a pansy. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Some lovely person posted a link to Hypermaniac on DoA this morning showing new pix of the dollies. Yay! I thought I’d post some comparison pix since the picture of Ishta is so much more clear than the last ones.
Ishta’s eyes have a more downward slope, which makes them a bit more melancholy. While Ksy’s mouth is a little more pursed maybe? Thinner at the edges? More pouty. But overall the face shape and nose and jaw are very similar. Not twins, but definately seesters.
I’m very excited to see more of the new girls. I’m also very sad that it has been five months since I paid for my So-som and haven’t received her yet. She’s so wee!

The Kallistis jointed the Kellyhimes to enjoy an afternoon at the Theater for a showing of “The Libertine.” Gadzooks, I’ve been following this film since production, its many delays, and it is finally over…
“I know he is a Devil, but he has something of the Angel yet undefac’d in him.” — George Etherege
It’s funny, it came off a bit like a deSade. Hard to look at yet compelling. The film starts out with a monologue of Wilmot stating “I don’t want you to like me.” And that is exactly what happens. He’s a difficult one to have sympathy for. His poetry is brilliant yet raw and volatile. He’s someone who started his career as a great wit and the life of the party, he ends up a sad alcoholic, shunned by all for his crazy antics. By the time he would have redeemed himself, by modern standards, he becomes riddled with syphilis and dies at 33. O! The glory and romance of the Olden Days™. The film picks up just before the descent, so it is a rough ride, and not easy on the senses. And apart perhaps from the dwarf riding the gigantic cock across the stage, is fairly accurate.
It is beautifully filmed and staged. It is gritty and done seemingly with natural light, so I was always straining to see. And I love that. It wasn’t pretty, in the traditional costume drama sense.
My one complaint is that both this film, and the surprisingly enjoyable “Stage Beauty,” another Restoration Theater piece, has laid claim to the Birth of Method Acting. WTF!?!?! This really bugs me. Restoration Theater was Restoration Theater… please stop turning it into The Actor’s Studio. Grrrr!
Ondine and I got a little dressed up for the Occasion, I’m clutching my 1777 edition of The Poems of Rochester:
Some of the dialog was a bit long in the tooth, but I really loved it. They touched on many of the big incidents of his career, which was fun for the geek in me. Johnny Depp was brilliant, as were the other players. It lacked sympathy and timing I think, but is definately something I’d own, though not something I’d recommend to all.
And it is just a little bit filthy. Mwowr.
In Tribute to Jack, here’s my Artful Dodger!
Ondine Alice & Saint Trinian cuddle in their new duds. They look like something out of a book Dickens never wrote. Ondine Alice is in Dollheart’s “Earl” while St. Trinian is froofy fruffy in Ajumapama. The Dollheart outfit is less expensively constructed than usual, but it was reflected in the cheaper price. It is still gorgeously cut, just the velvet isn’t as fine as their other outfits. I like the trend towards lowering their prices a bit so this is really cool. The boots are amazing, but too short for Ondine’s long calves… they bulge inappropriately on the back of her lanky calves, and Mr. Kallisti had to use pliers to snap them shut, but oh well. They rock! I think the Ajumapama outfit would have been better with mary janes rather than boots, the boots cover the socks almost completely! Still, very cool.
Saint Trinian is in sore need of body clean up and face-up redo. As are several of my dolls. But I think her and Miette are definately next in line for the spa!
Having a great weekend. Crafts and dollies and Doctor Who and more crafts and dollies… with tacos and snacks all the live long day.
So busy most of the time just don’t have enough time to give to picture taking, what with the short days and all.
But I spent yesterday doing a commission and making a dolly top hat! Thanks to teacher Judy who gave me a pattern to work with… I wanted a mad hatter style exaggerated tophat and it came out great, kinda. The form came out great, but I played hookie on the part of class where she would have showed us how to actually COVER the fantastic buckram hat form. D’oh! So I winged it and you can sorta tell. But I dunna care, I love it so much! And fun to do in front of telly watching Doctor Who. Mew, mew.
Also, the weekend we went over to AJ’s & Judy’s for dolly bonnet and hat making class I made this outfit for Hermione. I’ve been dreaming about it since I placed the fcs order. Since I didn’t want to attempt a sasha clone I thought it would be amusing, and quite fetching, to make her the Anti-Sasha. So I got her the same wig in dark brown and made one of the Little Princess outfits in black batiste from the Volks Pattern books with some mods, and added a little cap. Pintucks, omg! It is fun.
I’ll shut up now, I’m just a bit giddy with happiness. Hermione & Ondine are losing their patience with me.
A loverly piece of late Georgian mourning jewelry ^_^
