Official Site: The Tudors at Showtime.com
Airdate: Sunday, April 1st, 2007
Edit: (2/26/2007) With the introduciton of the Showtime official site for The Tudors... it is starting to look rather exciting, despite the very mod popstar treatment. I don't know if it is just because Jonathon Rhys-Meyers is hot (hhhhhhhawt), or the dramatic Lachrymose soundtrack, but the new trailer is definately more gripping. I'm starting to think: oh boy! Ha-ha. I'm a sucker.
I don't know how I feel about this. Article at New York Times.
I just don't know why they can't do something more rock 'n' roll and keep the costumes more traditional. Or something. I'm not that stuffy, I've loved some non-traditional adaptations. But they have to be good. Like "Titus." Yarm, yarm!
But I really haven't liked much of the recent Tudor pix or series, and one of the reasons is their modernist approach and all that "must get the ignorant masses to relate to crazy tudor england" stuff. I love Jonathon Rhys Meyers though. And Jonathon Rhys Meyers in gold lame even better.
I guess after Anne of the Thousand Days it is all downhill.
Also, why "The Tudors"? Looks like it is just one Tudor to me. Meh.
I'm just sayin'.

Yeah, I watched the trailer. I'm not quite sure what to think. For one thing, wasn't Henry closer to forty when he took an interest in Anne? On that note, I think he was older when a lot of those things happened.
Maybe it's just me being picky; I'm particular about my history.
I'm also a fan of Anne of the Thousand Days. It's perfectly brilliant.

Since Annette is such a stickler for the fine points of history... This ten episode mini-series is meant to chronicle his nearly 40 year reign which began when he was about 20-- not to mention the story of his ascendance is not a dull one. Yes he didn't go after Anne B until his mid-thirties-- but he had already had at least two large scale affairs and fathered at least 5 children by that time. Regardless of all that, Jon Rhys Meyers is 29 which doesn't make him too young to play the part- though I bet that by the time they get towards the end of his reign they will either change actors or augment his makeup
I think that given the network and the creative team behind this project-- not to mention some of the actors recruited for it, this show will be good.

One thing troubling me about the upcoming series 'The Tudors'-Henry VIII had red hair and blue eyes. Katharine of Aragon was very short, and her voice very low, almost manlike. I wish they resembled the true people more.

Does anyone know who is singing and/or the name of the song that they play when advertising the show on showtime?

I've read the whole biography of viii by Carolly erickson, and of his daughters, but anyone can see that they've taken a lot of liberties with this series. However, besides being handsome (and HOT!!), Jonathan is an excellent actor and probably has done a good job in this part as well. I am looking forward to seeing it. Love Anne of a Thousand days...

There are two previews for this show and I know the song for the main ad, but what is the "guitar", "rockish" song in the other ad??

I would watch (and probably tape) anny series with Sam Neill in it....so this is a natural. He is such a fine actor.

I watched the first two episodes last night on Showtime on Demand and I must say I was very disappointed. For me, there was not a single likable character. Not one. I don't want to say too much since many might not have seen it yet. But I won't be watching again.

Steven Waddington should have been casted as Henry. And why isn't there any art being shown, or being painted? I known that the art isn't as good as France, Italy, or Spain, but there is a great portrait of Katherine of Aragon, Herny, etc. Art is one of the main reason we have such a visual of the period. Use it.

Hi Bonnie! It's nice to see another Steven Waddington fan! I surely do love him. It seems as though they are going for the Henry as Rockstar than Henry as brooding and Handsome. Hence the lack of art as well... it would just contrast badly with the very modern direction they took. Whether you agree or not with that direction, who knows... I'm hoping at least for good entertainment. I can forgo historical adherence if it all *works*.
So say I. ^_^

A brilliant production as one of the best acted and written script I have ever seen.

I saw both episodes of The Tudors and found them enjoyable. I can't wait to see the rest of the Series. They may have used poetic liberties but it was done in a stylish manner.

I have seen the first 2 episodes on Showtime on Demand. When will they be airing the next episode(s)?
Henry the VIII was a larger than life character. I felt the man who played Buckingham resembled this historical figure better than Rhys - Meyer.

I was sent a copy of The Tudors by a friend. As a British history student and an intelligent normal person I was disappointed and grossly insulted. The costumes and carriages were completely incorrect, and just what was the strange creature depicted as one (or possibly both) of Henry VIII's sisters? Where oh where did anyone get the mistaken information that Henry's sister (whichever one it was supposed to be) married the King of Porugal for goodness sake? The few British people that I have spoken to who have seen this think it is totally laughable. The Tudor period is exciting and interesting enough for anyone without messing it about. I sincerely hope that most Americans (and I am sure most of them do) have the good sense to realise what trash they are watching. (P. S. Loved the cardboard type scenery.)
