New Beginnings!

Despite the sleepy blog, we’ve been quite busy in Blastmilk Land. THINGS are AFOOT, sweetie!

After nearly 7 years at my last place of employ, I’ve moved on to a new position as Web Development Consultant for Oxygenee LTD. & Absinthes.com. For those who don’t know, for many years I hosted an absinthe information website & community at FeeVerte.net. In 2005 it was taken over by our good friend David at Oxygenee.com. I’ve always said if he had enough work for a full time developer to give me a call. Well, it finally paid off and I’m working for this small eclectic Absinthe company located in Germany, France & the United Kingdom. All from sleepy li’l Crockett!

Here’s my carefully crafted wee home office. Purple desk thanks to Ikea’s new Isala.  This is located in our Rumpus Room.  Originally I was to put the office in the doll room, but the dolls kicked me out of the nursery!

Neeeext… since I’m working from home now what better time to adopt another rescue chihuahua! So here we are, introducing KING RUFUS!

He's a real knuckle dragger.Introducing: King Rufus!Introducing: King Rufus!I didn't know he had a split tongue till I saw this picture... aw!Introducing: King Rufus!Daddy's Boy! Rufus is sooo quiet, but he squeals a bit when you pick him up (tender prolly)Beware the zombie puppy!Fistful of Chihuahuas: or, my family

Adopted from the Contra Costa Animal Shelter (I got Zillah kitty there earlier this year) on October 11th. He’s approximately 2 years old and was captured as a stray wandering open areas in the county for 2 months. He’s very friendly so we assume he’s been socialized and had family at one point. He’s 3.10 lbs! But we’re fattening him up to a nice 4 lbs.

As always, we want to make an effort to post more, but I can always be followed on flickr, or Facebook, or Twitter etc. links in the right column. I’m dribbling doo-dah there all day long.  When I’m not working or walking the dogs!

Armchair Pride or, my big gay dolls!

It is Gay Pride 2011, and Licca & Billy are celebrating the victory in New York! California must surely be next ^_^

I used to watch Pride every year when I lived in The City, I’m more retiring these days, but my heart is always there, as are many of my very dear ones, friends and family alike.

I’ve also been collecting porcelain dandy figurines. I love porcelain, but most of it, the good stuff, is so far beyond my reach.  So I’m targeting mid-century-regency twee pieces, and they can be had for a steal. I look for good color, and the faces must be well painted. And anything “made in japan” is fair game!  I love the dandies, some of them are so poncy that the sellers on eBay often mistake them for women, such as my Mint Bicorne figure below.

Volks’ White Rose: Ladylike Dress

Pintucks & poufy sleeves, I cannot resist! It’s been awhile since I’ve bought dolly outfits, and as I’m still unpacking what I already have and need to sort through it, I really have no business bringing any more home.  The White Rose collection from Volks usually consists of Victorian & Edwardian inspired “whites”… so much love!  I just happened to check the website late Saturday night, and The White Rose Ladylike Dress was one of the only sets that hadn’t completely sold out. Joy!

Aaaand a sneak peak at the Doll Nursery being unpacked… STILL!  Look at all the treasures, I’m unpacking goodies that haven’t seen the light of day for 4+ years, and two moves ago! Oops!

Sweet dolly chaos! Oy! What I'm doing today...

The season for antiquing & thrifting is upon us!

Or it is for me apparently! Some treasures trickled in via eBay (Marwal busts & the Nishi Snow Woman doll), some we drove 120 mile round trip TWICE to pick up (the two china cabinets), but mostly we bummed about the Alameda Point Antiques Faire, the Crockett City Wide Garage Sale, downtown Vallejo & Martinez Peddler’s Faire.

One of the greatest things about buying a house, you get to furnish it! We’ve bought some new furniture, all carefully thrifted via Craigslist and local shops. I’m a super cheapskate, which makes it challenging, but SO satisfying when I find the perfect piece. We’re almost done though. Anything else (aside from a sofa) that comes into the house, something else has to go.

The tchotchkes though, they keep coming! We’ll definitely have to have a garage sale soon. Or a virtual one. Most recent fascination: vintage “made in japan” china & decor & toys.

In any case, welcome to the new WordPress blog! I’m unpacking and decorating the Doll Nursery (see china cabinets below), and we’re still decorating and renovating the Sugar Shack in Crockett!

New Orleans here I come!

Whoopee! Woot-woot!
Just bought tickets for New Orleans in April. I haven’t been in 9 years, a cryin’ shame. And Mr. Kallisti hasn’t been at all. But life happens, ya know. It is our first proper vacation since Europe in 2007. So we’re over due.
Will be bunkin’ in the French Quarter with this gorgeous fella. Oh yeah.

Shopping for Aging Schlubby Goth Girls

For my as yet confirmed spring vacation to an undisclosed location (yes, including new collar for the Butter girl). Shopping spree at OldNavy.com Women’s Plus. Neutrals for this season are still greys and navys. Yeah!!!! Jersey dresses with schlubby sneakers are perfect vacation/weekend wear.

And finally found a shower curtain I love at UrbanOutfitters.com. And a couple gothic cottage bathroom accessories.

Gothic Cottage Style: something I made up to describe stuff I like. Rustic vintagey apothecary with Gothic Revival elements. Gothic Revival sans the Vampire Chic of modern gothic decor. Neutrals are off-white and soft greys with slashes of dark grey and black and bright colors.
And for Valentines Day I got the Red Queen “Alice in Wonderland” hoodie from Torrid store. I think they’ve sold out from the websites. So, go me! Ima goob.
