Losing my patience

"It was a dark day for Darwin when Dover, Pa., became the first school district in the country to mandate the teaching of "intelligent design," which challenges the theory that man descended from apes. School board members Carol and Jeff Brown resigned in opposition to the decision."

and...

"Although public schools have been teaching evolution for decades, a national Gallup poll in November 2004 showed that only 35 percent of those asked believed confidently that Darwin's theory was "supported by the evidence.'' More than one-third of those polled by CBS News later in November said creationism should be taught instead of evolution."

I give up. Give up!

Ya know, there are some very good reasons why our forefathers wrote the seperation between church and state into the Constitution. Mainly to keep the country from being controlled by a bunch of nutjobs, and to keep the nutjobs from controlling how the rest of us choose to live our lives. I can't believe so many people here are actively seeking a theocracy.

Believe what you want, I'm all over that. I sometimes think faith (of all kinds) is a miraculous thing to have.

But this puritan revolution is really starting to get on my nerves. I don't know what to do. The area I live in is SO NOT THAT, that activism is just preaching to the choir.

More of us hippies need to move to Arkansas and, er... PENNSYLVANIA obviously. And have hippy babies.

I envision something like an Islamic state except with more consumerism, booze, and trucker hats. Ya know what, all ya'll need to go out and found yer own state, AND GIT YER HANDS OFF OF MINE.

Sailor Jerry kimono anyone?

Way off out in the 'burbs of the East Bay, in a far, far, faraway strip mall, we found a gem of a little fabric store.

Fabric Depo! We saw it after they had closed late one night, so we pressed our little faces to the glass and were astounded by what we saw! Lots and lots of the retro prints designed by that one firm you see a lot of lately. And lots of specialty, costumey fun stuff.

So we went back a few days later and cleaned up at their 30% off sale. Sammy Wo is super friendly and helpful!

I really want to try my hand at making a kimono for Fifi, but wanted a silly and exotic fabric. Well, I think I found it. Sailor Jerry kimono! The red and gold japanese fabric is for the lining. I still haven't picked out fabric for the under Kimono (is that the juban? I am so ignorant!).

I polled DOA and I think I'm going to attempt this pattern. It is for a 19" doll so wouldn't have to be enlarged much. If it doesn't work out I'll just buy one of Denis' patterns.

If anyone has suggestions, please chime in!

Gudrun gets kallistification

clover01.jpg She's been spray matted with Mr. Super Clear, eyelids painted a glowey moss green, brown beauty mark painted to match mine, and her eyechips changed out. And that is it. I love her so much I made her another wee dress. Oh, and Mr. Kallisti painted her glasses to look like mine. Sweet!

Licca-chan Gothic Lolita Dress Set

CLicky CLick!

I don't know anything about them yet. They appear to be limited (really limited) handmade designer dresses. Which explains why they're a bit on the expensive side (a bit!). I can't even tell which Jenny friends those are! I wish I could find lace that tiny.

Ah! Christmas Licca!

Mmm. We slept and ate leftovers all day. Now THAT is a day off.

The long lost Reno trip pictures

Normally I would have just forgotten about them after all this time (three weeks ago), but some of them were too funny not to share. Click piccie below for gallery:

Thanksgiving was the lovely. We made roasted garlic mashed potatoes, italian sausage and sourdough stuffing, grease beans, and homemade organic cranberry sauce with orange and apple and spicey things. Mmmm. My brother took care of the exquisite bird. And then gave us half of it to take home. Oh boy. Since my stepmother complained about the hillbilly music we were playin', we put on the Cyndi Lauper & Love & Rockets. Which made my night. They never play my music. My brother usually plays John Denver or Mack Davis. But since we brought him bottle of bourbon he promised not to. Oh, and I had mudslides all night.

It was warm and fuzzy with lots of poo talk during dinner. I hearts my fambly.

Um, wow.

Azone has redone their site. No time to explore. Off to the fambly house to gorge on good homemade eats.

Please say a prayer for the plight of indigenous peoples everywhere while you're glutting yourself on the fruits of their labor.

I know I will.

Spice!

spicerack.jpg

We picked up eleven old spice jars during our trip to Reno a few weeks ago (there's good junk shoppin' them thar ways, yesiree). I came home today and Mr. Kallisti had built me the mooooost beeeyootiful spice rack EVER. I can't believe it, it is so awesome. The edges are all smoove and rounded, and it is painted a bright cherry red w/ wee li'l mushrooms to keep the jars in place. Forgive the crappy flash picture, I couldn't even wait for him to mount it on the wall before I took a picture.

Who's lucky!?!?!

Sneak Peak. Ssshhh!

Spent the week cleaning up some old projects. Like... papering La Casa Formica! Still lots of work to do, but once I get two more floors down and some chair/plate rails I'll at least be able to put my dolls and stuff in it without being ashamed.

More pix when it is fit to be seen.

Also made that wee red checker dress for Gudrun Saturday morning. And super thanks to Melissa who showed me the pink Tico Kitchen auction in the first place! It is a little big, so who knows if it is permanent, but it sure is sweet lookin'.

Oh also, please forgive the bad-photos-taken-with-late-night-incandescent-lighting-and-made-to-look-arty-and-on-purpose. Cheers.
