Mardi Gras Uber Alles!

| | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0)

Happy Fat Tuesday to all!

And with this, I share some very old peektures of the last time Bat & I went to Mardi Gras. We spent a month in the guest room of Chateau Bimbaux, one of the happiest 30 days of my life.

Mardi Gras 2001! Nothing like whoring oneself for gaudy baubles to cheer one up.

Oh gads! There's some pictures of people in here I can't show because they are NAKED! Hahaha. Makes me happy.

Edit: adding this picture because it makes me laugh. Taken IN New Orleans, though probably not at Mardi Gras, circa 1997.

Yep. Pretty, pretty!?!?! No wonder I used to get pick up lines like "I want to f@#^%@ck your hair."

She seems so lonely

I raised my head from fever dreams today. And found Aschenputtel dressed by the goblins and ready for market.

Inspired by some yards of vintage brown lace I found in an old shop in two widths. The crinoline is an old faded pink doll crinoline that is wired underneath. I made an overdress in a cheesecloth like flax colored material, with a brown bodice and overskirt of a vintage lace. I love the delicate multi-textured layering. It was difficult to keep it from getting bunched up and too thick. Used some tricks.

Dear Universe,

You know I love the rain, but if you ruin my satellite connection for the Bleak House series finale I'll just perish! (yeah yeah, it plays on 3 other channels all week. but I want it NOW!) Also, I can't spray Mr. Super Clear in the rain (sorry Mercy, but the Eyebrows Mach II look FAB!!!), so I'm making a fairy ball gown for Aschenputtel. It might suck. But it might not. I hate when you can't tell till you've spent two days on a project whether it will suck or not.

Speaking of Gilly (Anderson), we saw Tristram Shandy on Friday night and it was fantastic! Had serious gut splitting moments where I thought my eyeballs were going to explode. But best part??? LIBERTINE PREVIEW. Dude, I think I have a bodice ripper boner. March 10th.

Love,
Me

P.S. I'm sorry I caused all that cancer.

Blackberry Bush Blythe comes with three outfits: Riding Hood, Wolf & Grandma.

Special white or light skin color? And custom eyes. Dreamy.

Having a great weekend. Crafts and dollies and Doctor Who and more crafts and dollies... with tacos and snacks all the live long day.

So busy most of the time just don't have enough time to give to picture taking, what with the short days and all.

But I spent yesterday doing a commission and making a dolly top hat! Thanks to teacher Judy who gave me a pattern to work with... I wanted a mad hatter style exaggerated tophat and it came out great, kinda. The form came out great, but I played hookie on the part of class where she would have showed us how to actually COVER the fantastic buckram hat form. D'oh! So I winged it and you can sorta tell. But I dunna care, I love it so much! And fun to do in front of telly watching Doctor Who. Mew, mew.

Also, the weekend we went over to AJ's & Judy's for dolly bonnet and hat making class I made this outfit for Hermione. I've been dreaming about it since I placed the fcs order. Since I didn't want to attempt a sasha clone I thought it would be amusing, and quite fetching, to make her the Anti-Sasha. So I got her the same wig in dark brown and made one of the Little Princess outfits in black batiste from the Volks Pattern books with some mods, and added a little cap. Pintucks, omg! It is fun.

I'll shut up now, I'm just a bit giddy with happiness. Hermione & Ondine are losing their patience with me.

A loverly piece of late Georgian mourning jewelry ^_^

Tiny spooky nun.

I just won Captain Cecil's coat & hat off of YJP for Ondine, and now Dollheart.com releases this.

I am DOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED! Blue velvet poof pants!!! Am I lucky or WOT!?!?! I'm very excited to have someone to buy the natty boy outfits for... and it isn't a boy! hahhaha!

Still having a hard time with the Ksy shoes. I think I don't like boy boots or something. I got some pretty rockin' punky ones from Dollheart and I'm all "eh..."

Gar. Well, her piratey outfits will warrant the giant boots of doom so maybe I'll get over it.

Going through stuff... a bunch of things from some of our outings that haven't been sorted yet. And some of it is really neato! Below is the cover of an old needlework/lace making magazine. And I got a couple old Tatler's from 1935 that are seriously rocking my socks. It is all fashion and lingerie ads. *swoon!*

Also reading Haute Doll more closely... so fun! So many of my friends and dollies. Fifi is writing a letter to the editor though as her picture wasn't attributed. Teehee. She finally makes it to the BIG TIME and they don't mention her name!

Valentine's BJD Meet

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

We went! Out in public! We left the house! Weeeeeeeeeeee!

FAB.

Devon put on a fantastic afternoon, preceded by a wonderful leetle meet in the Arboretum w/ Kelly & Gang. My pictures are overexposed and blurry... sigh. As usual. The tea house was AWESOME. We had our own space in a little victorian cottage with a room set-up for the dollies. But it was so tight it was really hard to get in to take pictures of the 60+ dolls attending without getting jostled. The company was fantastic, as usual I wish I could have chatted around the room more. But I get so giddy and dumb. They had a very cool little raffle to raise funds for the next meet and I won a cute pony tail wig!

Here's my lame photo album, there were SO MANY gorgeous dollies there. Some of my favorites (one & two) I don't even know who/what they are. The bjd world is getting crazy!

Favorite pix:

Merry (liebchen) was very naughty all day! In the park she kept picking her nose and I found her giving the "up yours" at the tea room! Gasp!

Everyone was super nice, both Ondine & Hermione got Valentine's which has totally gone to their heads. Imogen sat with me at the table, I didn't want to leave her alone as she's trouble!

omg

I'm all aflutter. I'm about to spend a lot of money... on myself! Lane Bryant has a spring line called "la Belle Epoque." And while I've never gone in for taupe before (eeep!) these are so awesome! And usually of the style that only tiny Anthropologie girls can wear.

So meet my new *cough* interview *cough* suit.

Dude. Check out the detail on the skirt:

Um. More money than I've ever spent on an item of clothing I think, but I have a phat coupon that should ease the pain quite a bit.

The girls need a snack

He's 29cm! Or 11.5"... his name is Kimmy. My girls could floss their teeth with him. Teehee.

I really love the photos though. Awesome. I keep meaning to make a saddle for my raven. O! It is a donkey. I thought it was a rabbit :/ Still... now I need a stuffed bunny for my dollies to ride like a pony.

I love him in the Li'l Lord Fauntleroy outfit.

Um, yay!

I think I just ordered this?

But as soon as I ordered it went "out of stock" again. I waited too long to order it last time, I wanted it for Ondine. Mwowr. Anyone familiar with Luts ordering to reassure me that I placed my order?

Also, and I don't know why I'm just checking now, but the Sekiguchi Momokos are available on HLJ.com! They have Pink Poodle in stock right this very second. And I preordered "lovely folklore." Mmmm-Momoko!

Angelregion "Only For You" Notdoll Cossette in milky white resin. Mew! Her name is Imogen, and she's Lizzie Lou's sister. They did a fantastic job on my face-up request. She's very delicately and thoughtfully painted. Lovely details! I might plump her lips up a bit, is all. She came in a black box w/ purple pillows and silver card w/ artist signature. Nice, nice package! The milky white resin is pure white! Pearly like the crystal rose resin, but whiter.

And um, Angelregion's xmas prezzie for previous customer's? Imogen's outfit. It is so lovely! A beautiful li'l sailor collared, pintucked black cotton dress, bonnet and bloomers. OMG. So she's a complete doll! She came with the little silver bob wig that I trimmed within an inch of its life.

O, look! Lizzie's ready for bed too...

Oops. Lizzie's hit the Godfrey's Cordial, she so sleepy! The Cordial is Nursey's little helper...

Our little girl is all grow'd up!

Who needs an SD16 when I have Ondine Alice. Her [ksy] body arrived two days ago and I'm so in love! And look, she crammed herself into some Volks panties and looks smashing! The only thing she can't cram into are SHOES. I bought some Leeke Unoss shoes hoping they would fit but nada! They are for sale if anyone wants them.

It seems have my girls are wearing blonde mohair right now. What is up with that? This is my latest Volks mohair. Originally sold for $70 I've been snagging them off of YJP for a relative pittance. Teehee!

O! What is this? Look who's come to visit...

She's one of the special dollfie plus heads I finally was able to obtain at the Volks LA store opening. Her name is Gretel. And she's sporting the cutest outfit that WeetzieFae brought back for me from Volks Japan.

Libertine & Tristram Shandy still MIA. Libertine, between last week and this, has been pushed back to March 6th! Tristram opened to limited release last week, no word on a wider release.

This bluestocking needs her fluff fix! Gar!

Edit: at least Libertine as an official site now w/ preview! March 10th it sez.

On other news, I don't think I'm quite ready for Heath Ledger's Casanova after David Tennant was so fun in BBC's whirligig of a production.

I've got a hankerin' to see Nanny McPhee.

I finally tivo'd Alexander and O! Lordy! What a load of orientalist crap that was. Alexander: or, How the Irish in Mullets Kicked the Booties of all those Crazy Sexy Brown People Out East. I think it would have been MUCH better if they had cut all but the fab homo scenes... and then it would have made a great Ken Russell film. Homos were the only redeeming quality. Oh, and Rosario Dawson's awesomely pendulous boobage. That pretty much goes without saying for most things. Kiss-kiss!

I finally received Innocence from Amazon UK. I'm uh, reeeeally excited about this one, I have a feeling that it is going to be my new favorite movie. They used my favorite font for the title!

Also, I love Stephanie Zacharakarakarakah at Salon.com reviews. Sigh.

Being a lover of the classics is such a humorless gig, particularly when it comes to movie adaptations of great books. Late last year, the Jane Austen Society, as well as many plain old Jane Austen fans, dipped Joe Wright's lively "Pride & Prejudice" into their home test kits and found its Austenticity lacking: The country dance was too noisy and undignified, the characters took unforgivable liberties with the book's dialogue, and too much of the story happened outdoors. The ending seen in American theaters, in which Lizzy and Darcy actually kiss, was the last straw; in Austen's world, characters never kissed, even, apparently, in private.

The terrible and beautiful thing about adaptations of great books is that they're always intruders, invading our already crowded imaginations and demanding a little space of their own. But their audaciousness is often mistaken for a kind of overwrite capability, a demonic code written expressly to erase (and not just accessorize) the joyful and intensely private experience of reading. How much power we cede to a movie adaptation of a beloved book is up to us, not it, and yet we can't help seeing a "failed" adaptation as the dangerous enemy of everything we hold dear.

I'm just sayin'

Not only is it really lovely that Volks created english translation of all their booklets and paperwork that come with your FCS, they've also included this handy little flyer:

Sigh.

Hello, even were these not half-finished kits, all plastic mold dolls have seams, dummy! Barbie has seams, Tonner dolls have seams... all kinds of fancy molded dolls have seams. Most Volks (and other companies) seams are not too noticeable. Some are moreso than others. But whatever! Only my first few dolls have sanded seams (and I just sold sylvie's original body), and I opted for sanding on the FCS because they'd do it for me! Yay! The only one I really want sanded now is the LA one-off, she's got pretty wicked seams. I think unless you are blushing and coating, why bother and who cares?

Just sayin'.
